DGCA to FAA License Conversion

Comprehensive FAA license validation and conversion pathways for DGCA-licensed pilots seeking U.S. certification and international operational eligibility.

FAA DGCA-to-FAA License Conversion — Program Overview

Duration

21–30 Days (Varies by experience)

Training Hours

40–60 Hours (Estimated)

This program is specifically tailored for pilots holding a valid DGCA (India) Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) who wish to obtain the equivalent FAA certificate.

The conversion process focuses on bridging the gap between Indian regulatory requirements and FAA standards, ensuring you are proficient in U.S. Airspace regulations, FAA communication protocols, and practical flight standards.

What This Conversion Program Includes

  • Verification of Authenticity: Guidance on the FAA/DGCA Letter of Authenticity (Verification) process.
  • FAA Written Exam Prep: Focused ground school for the Private, Commercial, or ATP Knowledge Tests.
  • U.S. National Airspace System (NAS) Training: Deep dive into FAA-specific charts, weather services, and regulations (14 CFR Part 61/91).
  • Flight Proficiency Training: In-aircraft or simulator sessions to align maneuvers with FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS).
  • English Language Proficiency (ELP): Validation of FAA-standard radio telephony and communication.
  • Check Ride Readiness: Mock oral and practical exams with FAA-style evaluation profiles.
FAA validation, procedural alignment, and global operational eligibility

What This Program Prepares You For

FAA Regulatory Mastery

Navigate the U.S. Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) with total confidence.

U.S. Airspace Competency

Master flight operations in complex Class B, C, and D airspaces, including high-density radio communications.

Global Career Mobility

Hold the world’s most recognized pilot license, opening doors to contract work and international carriers.

Advanced Certification Path

Transition smoothly from a DGCA CPL to an FAA ATP (Airline Transport Pilot) certificate.

DGCA to FAA License Conversion Structure

This conversion pathway is a high-intensity, structured program designed to transition a DGCA-licensed pilot into the FAA system efficiently. While the timeline is compact, the focus remains on achieving the high level of situational awareness and “stick-and-rudder” proficiency required by the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS).

01

Administrative & Regulatory Foundation

Duration: Approx. 5–7 Days Focus: Documentation, FAA Knowledge Testing, and Airspace Theory

Before flight training begins, you must clear the regulatory hurdles. This phase ensures your paperwork is synchronized with FAA requirements and your theoretical knowledge is “test-ready.”

Outcome: Completion of the FAA Knowledge Test and a solid theoretical base for U.S. flight operations.

02

Flight Proficiency & Maneuver Validation

Duration: Approx. 10–14 Days Aircraft: Cessna 172 (G1000) / Piper Archer / Multi-Engine Trainer Focus: Precision flying and FAA-specific procedures

This phase aligns your flying “habits” with the FAA ACS. We focus on the specific tolerances required to pass a U.S. check ride.

Outcome: Demonstrated flight proficiency within FAA ACS tolerances across all required maneuvers.

03

Check Ride Readiness & Final Evaluation

Duration: Approx. 5–7 Days Focus: Examiner-style preparation and Practical Test

The final stage is designed to eliminate “check ride nerves” by simulating the exact environment of the FAA Practical Test.

Outcome: Successful issuance of your FAA Pilot Certificate (Temporary Airman Certificate issued on the spot).

04

Expected Duration & Training Hours

Most DGCA pilots complete the conversion within 3–4 weeks, depending on weather and DPE availability.

Training Flow

A clear, structured pathway designed to guide already licensed DGCA pilots through the FAA transition, ensuring a seamless move from Indian CARs to U.S. FARs.

01

Regulatory Alignment & Ground Review

Focus: FAA theory and NAS (National Airspace System) integration

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: Passing the FAA Knowledge Test and achieving a strong theoretical foundation.

02

Flight Proficiency & Maneuver Validation

Focus: Operational alignment and ACS mastery

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: Demonstrated flight proficiency and “stick-and-rudder” skills that meet or exceed FAA examiner expectations.

03

FAA Practical Test Readiness

Focus: Examiner-style preparation and final check ride

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: Successful issuance of your FAA Pilot Certificate and immediate operational eligibility.

Eligibility for DGCA to FAA Conversion

This program is specifically designed for Indian license holders who wish to transition their credentials to the U.S. system. At Simulator Center Training, we ensure a smooth conversion and avoid regulatory delays, applicants must meet the following criteria before beginning flight training.

01

Valid DGCA Pilot License

You must hold a current and valid Commercial Pilot License (CPL) or Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India.

  • License must be current with a valid Medical and FRTOL (Flight Radio Telephone Operator’s License).

02

FAA Letter of Authenticity (Verification)

The most critical step. You must have initiated the Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License (FAA Form 8060-71) with the FAA Airmen Certification Branch.

  • The FAA will contact the DGCA to verify your license status.
  • You must receive your Letter of Authenticity before any FAA check ride can be scheduled.
  • Note: This process typically takes 45–90 days.
03

Medical Certification

A valid FAA Medical Certificate is required.

  • Class 1 Medical: Required for ATP or if you intend to exercise CPL privileges for airline operations.
  • Class 2 Medical: Sufficient for standard Commercial Pilot privileges.
  • Must be issued by an FAA-authorized Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).
04

TSA / AFSP Security Clearance

Under the Alien Flight Student Program (AFSP), all non-U.S. citizens must undergo a TSA Background Check (Category 3) before beginning flight training.

  • Includes fingerprinting and a security threat assessment.
  • We recommend starting this process immediately after receiving your visa/training invite.
05

English Language Proficiency

Applicants must demonstrate the ability to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.

  • A minimum of ICAO Level 4 is required.
  • FAA examiners evaluate this “natively” during the oral exam; clear communication in high-density U.S. airspace is mandatory.
06

Visa Requirements (For Training in the U.S.)

If you are traveling to the United States for this conversion, you must hold the appropriate visa:

  • M-1 Visa: For vocational flight training.
  • F-1 Visa: For academic/integrated flight programs.
  • Note: Converting a license on a B1/B2 (Tourist) visa is generally not permitted for active flight training.
