Airbus A330 FAA License Conversion

FAA-aligned A330 license validation for already type-rated pilots seeking international operational eligibility.

FAA Airbus A330 License Conversion — Program Overview

Duration

28-33 Days

Training Hours

95-105 Hours

This FAA-aligned Airbus A330 license conversion program is designed for pilots who already hold a valid A330 type rating under DGCA, EASA, or another ICAO authority and require FAA recognition to operate internationally or meet airline requirements.

Rather than retraining you from the beginning, this program focuses on validation, regulatory alignment, and FAA operational readiness for long-haul wide-body operations.

What This Conversion Program Includes

  • FAA regulatory alignment for pilots holding an existing A330 type rating.
  • Focused ground knowledge review targeting FAA procedures, ETOPS (Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards), and SOP differences.
  • Systems Integration Training (SIT) to validate heavy-aircraft automation, fuel management, and advanced avionics.
  • Full-motion Airbus A330 simulator evaluation using FAA-style profiles and long-haul scenarios.
  • CRM and crew coordination validation aligned with FAA airline operating standards for augmented crews.
  • Examiner-style assessments to prepare you for the FAA check ride.
  • Professional airline-style instruction from experienced wide-body airline captains.

Training is conducted in a structured airline environment, ensuring pilots demonstrate operational proficiency, long-range procedural discipline, and decision-making consistent with FAA expectations.

FAA validation, procedural alignment, and global operational eligibility

What This Program Prepares You For

FAA Operational Validation

Demonstrate proficiency in Airbus A330 heavy operations under FAA regulatory and airline operating standards.

FAA SOP & Procedural Alignment

Bridge differences between DGCA, EASA, and FAA procedures, specifically regarding oceanic crossings, RVSM, and FAA-specific checklist usage.

FAA-Style Simulator Evaluation

Perform normal, abnormal, and emergency scenarios (including engine-out drifts and heavy-weight landings) using FAA-style profiles and examiner expectations.

International Operational Eligibility

Position yourself to operate the Airbus A330 under FAA recognition for global wide-body airline opportunities and cargo operations.

Airbus A330 FAA License Conversion Structure

This FAA-aligned conversion program follows a structured validation pathway specifically engineered for wide-body pilots who already hold an Airbus A330 type rating. The course emphasizes regulatory alignment, international oceanic procedures, and FAA check ride readiness rather than basic aircraft handling.

01

Ground Knowledge Review

Duration: Approx. 60–70 Hours
Format: Classroom Instruction + Computer-Based Training (CBT)

The program begins with a focused FAA-oriented theory review designed to identify, clarify, and bridge regulatory and procedural differences between your existing license authority (DGCA, EASA, or ICAO) and FAA operational standards. Unlike a standard type rating, this phase validates your existing heavy-jet experience while aligning it with FAA Part 121 expectations.

Outcome: You complete the ground phase with a comprehensive understanding of FAA long-haul procedures, fully prepared for advanced simulator evaluation.

02

Full-Motion Simulator Evaluation

Aircraft: Airbus A330 Full Flight Simulator (FFS)

Focus: Operational validation, not retraining

Simulator sessions are conducted in a professional airline-style environment and are designed to mirror FAA evaluation profiles. This phase validates your ability to manage the A330’s mass and complexity in accordance with FAA procedures and examiner expectations.

This Phase Includes:

Outcome: You demonstrate the operational proficiency and cockpit discipline required to meet FAA wide-body airline standards.

03

Check Ride Preparation

Focus: Examiner-Style Readiness

This phase is designed to ensure you are fully prepared for the FAA check ride through structured evaluations, targeted feedback, and final procedural refinement. Training mirrors the specific flow and standards used by FAA-designated examiners (DPEs).

This Phase Includes:

Outcome: You complete the program confident and prepared to successfully execute the FAA practical test.

04

Expected Duration & Training Hours

Most pilots complete the Airbus A330 FAA License Conversion program within the following timeframe. The schedule is optimized for pilots transitioning from other international authorities.

Note: Actual timelines may vary based on individual pilot readiness, scheduling availability, and evaluation progression. The program structure maintains strict FAA compliance while respecting the pilot’s prior wide-body experience.

Training Flow

A clear, structured pathway designed to guide already type-rated Airbus A330 pilots from FAA alignment to check ride readiness with confidence, specifically tailored for wide-body international operations.

01

Ground Review & Systems Integration Training (SIT)

Focus: FAA alignment & procedural validation

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: A strong FAA-aligned theoretical foundation and procedural mastery before entering the simulator.

02

Full-Motion Simulator Evaluation

Focus: Operational validation

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: Demonstrated operational proficiency and cockpit discipline aligned with FAA wide-body standards.

03

FAA Check Ride Readiness

Focus: Examiner-style preparation

What happens in this phase:

Outcome: Total readiness to meet FAA examiner expectations and secure international operational eligibility.

Eligibility for A330 FAA License Conversion

This Airbus A330 FAA License Conversion program at Simulator Center Training is specifically designed for already type-rated pilots seeking FAA recognition through validation and operational alignment.

Our curriculum focuses on bridging the gap between international regulations and FAA standards, ensuring that applicants possess the refined heavy-jet experience necessary to transition into FAA Part 121 or Part 135 international operations.

01

Existing Airbus A330 Type Rating

You must already hold a valid Airbus A330 (A330-200, -300, or -900neo) type rating issued by DGCA, EASA, or another ICAO-recognized authority. The rating must be current and verifiable through the issuing authority.

02

Valid Pilot License (CPL or ATPL)

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • Commercial Pilot License (CPL) with completed ATPL theory (Frozen ATPL), or
  • Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL).
  • Foreign license holders are accepted provided they have undergone the FAA verification of authenticity process (Letter of Authenticity).

03

Multi-Engine & Instrument Ratings

  • Valid Multi-Engine (ME) Rating: Required for heavy-twin operations.
  • Valid Instrument Rating (IR): Must be current at the time of training to support IFR operations in FAA-regulated airspace.
04

Medical Certification

A valid Class 1 Medical Certificate is required. While your current ICAO Class 1 is necessary for the initial application, an FAA First-Class Medical is typically required to exercise the privileges of the license after conversion.

05

English Language Proficiency

A minimum of ICAO English Level 4 or higher is required. Pilots must demonstrate the ability to communicate fluently and clearly under FAA radio telephony standards.

04

Experience & Training Prerequisites

  • Logged Flight Time: Documented experience on the A330, including long-haul or wide-body operations, is highly recommended.
  • MCC (Multi-Crew Cooperation): Mandatory for EASA pilots; required for most FAA-aligned airline operations to ensure proficiency in augmented crew environments.
  • UPRT (Upset Prevention & Recovery Training): Completion of high-altitude and heavy-jet upset recovery training is required for FAA compliance.
